Maratus hakea, a new species from southwestern Western Australia

On 8 September 2024 Jurgen Otto and David Hill described the new species Maratus hakea in Peckhamia 319.1. The name is a reference to this spider’s habitat, the plant Hakea prostrata. This new species stands out by its large flaps and flamboyant colouration and colour pattern that is reminiscent of tiger sharks or mackerel. The spider is known from a single location near Cheynes Beach.
